A sad story leads off this week’s paper. On November 21, the day before Thanksgiving, 13-year-old Pinewood Christian Academy student, Peyton Randall, died. She had battled Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis for the past year and five days before her death, she developed flu-like symptoms, which became worse over the following days.
On a brighter note, two Collins’ brothers, Jaxon and Mason Smith, won first place in recent races. Mason actually broke a 13 year record by nearly seven minutes!!
Carlene Fravel, a Glennville Elementary School teacher, was honored as the Tattnall County Teacher of the Year. She and the other local teachers of the year were recognized at the Board of Education meeting.
Ruth Powell was named the Collins Citizen of the Year and she was honored during the city’s annual Tree Lighting Ceremony held November 24.
Bill Smith was named the Grand Marshal for the Cobbtown Christmas Style parade. The parade will be this Saturday, December 1, so be sure to make plans to attend! Also in this week’s paper, check out the photos and info from the Reidsville Christmas Parade held last Saturday.
