Reidsville resident Barbara Polke is facing murder charges in last week’s death of Ashley Sharpe. Polke was the driver of the vehicle and Sharpe had been the passenger, when Polke said a man had approached the vehicle and fired two shots at them, with one of them hitting Sharpe in the head. Polke is being held without bond. In addition, Catherine Sharpe Lee was arrested on four counts of giving false statements during the investigation.

Chris Reaves, of Georgia State Prison, was awarded the James Henderson Memorial Award at the 10th Annual GDC Awards ceremony in Forsyth, Ga.

The Tattnall County Industrial Development Authority has approved a resolution to move forward with the installation of a solar panel farm in Tattnall County.

Tattnall County voters selected their pick of Jack Kingston for the U.S. Senate race on Tuesday, July 22. Kingston however did not win enough votes throughout the district and the race went to David Perdue.

Tattnall County students have shown improvement on their final CRCTs and EOCTs. The percentage of Georgia eighth graders exceeding standards in all content area Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests (CRCT) increased this year, including an eight percentage point increase in reading. Eighth grade students in Tattnall County saw similar increases with the percentage of students meeting or exceeding expectations increasing in all five subject areas as compared to results in 2013. At the high school level, students in the state of Georgia improved performance on six out of the eight 2014 End of Course Tests (EOCT) compared to last year, according the data released by the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE). Students in Tattnall County saw increases on the End of Course Tests with the greatest increases occurring in ninth grade Literature and U.S. History.
