Another week of local tragedies leads off this week’s Tattnall Journal. Greg Mulling of Collins died in a one vehicle crash on June 17 after being ejected from his truck, which flipped off of Lynntown Road.

A 23-month-old little girl, Serenity Waller, drowned in a pond on Friday, June 13 in the Sand Hill community just inside Long County. Her mother had been outside with her and the child got out of sight for just a few minutes before she was found floating in the pond.

A grease fire destroyed a mobile home owned by Leigh McLeod in Reidsville. The home was being rented by Steven Allen. It was a total loss.

Adam Kirby is the new principal at Collins Elementary/Middle School for this coming year. Adam and his wife, Robin, have two children, Caiden and Riley.

Janean Coe has been hired as the new administrator at Tattnall Healthcare in Reidsville.

And, we have two local girls competing in the state pageants this week — Harley Strickland, 19, Miss East Georgia State College, daughter of Keith and JoAnn Strickland of Claxton, is competing for the title of Miss Georgia; and Sarah DeLoach, 17, Teen Miss International City, daughter of Chris and Sharon DeLoach of Claxton, is competing for Miss Georgia’s Outstanding Teen. The pageant will be emceed by Oshja Anderson Domenicone, Miss Georgia 1999, formerly of Glennville. The pageant will be streamed live on the internet on, by clicking on the “Miss Georgia Pageant” banner. Tune in for the preliminaries Wednesday-Friday, June 18-20, at 7:30 p.m.. The finale is Saturday, June 21, at 7:30 p.m.
